Landscape Designer – Full time position responsible for initial sales contact, design, and project direction of landscape installation. Must be creative and self-motivated with excellent customer service skills. B.S. degree in Landscape Architecture preferred or equivalent experience. Requires proficiency in Word, Excel, Photoshop, & preferably CAD.
Seasonal employees are hired for Southwood’s peak seasons of March-June and September-November. Southwood Landscape & Garden Center operates 7 days a week in many departments. Scheduled working hours and days vary based on the position, department, and season. Work shifts vary between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. The working environment is outside in many cases and work continues in the heat, rain, and all types of weather. Must be willing to work weekends and overtime during peak times. Unless otherwise noted, the positions currently available are temporary seasonal positions and the working hours fluctuate between 10 and 40 hours per week.
Horticultural Sales Person – Part-time position that has potential for full time position. Establishes customer relationships in person and on the phone through prompt and courteous service; maintains current knowledge of inventory, prices, horticulture practices, and sales techniques; and cares for, grooms, and displays stock to ensure quality. Requirements include one to two years retail experience in horticulture or related industry and preferably an Associates or higher degree in horticulture, forestry, environmental science or related field.
Cashier – Seasonal position responsible for greeting and directing customers, assist customers with purchases utilizing a computerized cash register, handle a variety of payment methods, and maintain and clean the work area. Previous cashier experience preferred. Possess the ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
Sales Helper – Assist customers with purchases by loading them into customers’ vehicles and securing them properly to avoid damage, thank the customers, stock bagged goods, keep the parking lot and other areas of the retail facility clean. Forklift training/certification helpful. Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds repeatedly and maneuver up to 250 pounds with proper equipment and additional personnel.
Retail Sales Attendant (In any of these sections: Bedding Plants, Perennials or Trees & Shrubs) – Assist salespersons with customers and merchandising. Care for plants by watering, pruning, and fertilizing. Maintain a neat and safe working environment. Organize and stock plants. Place proper signage for merchandise. Must be able to lift and move 50 pounds repeatedly and push/pull large rolling racks loaded with shelves of merchandise. Basic plant knowledge preferred.
Receiving Attendant – Load/unload plants and hard goods to/from trucks. Inspect quality of merchandise for defects, insects or disease. Stock, price and tag merchandise. Direct traffic in parking lot on weekends. Must be able to lift and move 50 pounds repeatedly, up to 75 pounds occasionally with assistance, and maneuver trees weighing up to 250 pounds with proper equipment and additional personnel. Forklift training/certification helpful.
Nursery Attendant - Properly care for trees and shrubs by watering, controlling insects and disease, pruning, and fertilizing. Mix and bag potting soil and azalea mix. Must be able to repeatedly lift and move up to 50 pounds and use equipment to move larger loads. Forklift training/certification helpful.
Production Attendant – Administer proper care to plants in a growing facility/greenhouse by watering, protecting from extreme temperatures, pruning, and fertilizing. Load/unload plants and hard goods to/from rolling racks and trucks. Able to drive truck with trailer for shipping. Must be able to repeatedly lift and move up to 40 pounds.
